Make Your Own Super Simple Salt Dough Easter Eggs - Ideal for Decorating an Easter Tree

We love decorating our house for Easter, & one thing we make every year is our Easter Tree. New decorations are added every Easter, but our favourites are these salt dough Easter eggs, super simple & frugal to make, they're a beautiful way to brighten up your house ready for Easter, & they last for years!

To make our Easter Tree we collected some branches from the garden & added them to an old plant pot. We secured the branches by pushing them into some clay at the bottom of the pot, then added some small pebbles which helped hold the pot steady.

To make our salt dough decorations we used:
1 cup of plain flour
½ a cup of salt
½ a cup of warm water

:: Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl & then slowly add the water until a dough consistency is formed. Then give the dough a good knead, & it's ready to use.

:: Roll out the dough onto a flat surface & use cookie cutters to create your Easter shapes.

:: Add a hole in the top of each shape using a straw & leave them to dry. We leave ours on a wire rack in the airing cupboard for 24 hours. You can dry them quicker in the oven, but we found drying them in the airing cupboard prevented any bubbles & cracks forming in the dough.

:: Once the salt dough shapes have hardened, you can paint or decorate them as you wish. We used pearlised acrylic paint which dries quickly & gives a pretty finish.

:: Thread some thin ribbon through the holes in your decorations, & they're ready to hang on our Easter Tree.

I love the bright bold colours on the decorations, just like those fabulous bright Spring flowers appearing everywhere.

These decorations will last for years if you wrap them well in tissue paper or kitchen towel, & keep them away from any moisture. We have quite a collection already!
